Macao Polytechnic University Hosts Seminar on Global Carbon Neutrality Trends to Promote Sustainable Tourism Development

In response to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and to promote green, low-carbon development of Macao’s tourism industry, the Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies of the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) held the seminar “Global Carbon Neutrality Trends and ESG Compliance in the International Gaming Industry”. MFTEDA Vice-President Shi Yun and Distinguished Research Fellow Hu Jiyuan were invited to join representatives of six integrated resort enterprises, gaming equipment suppliers, and the Macao International Emission Exchange, together with MPU faculty and students, in discussions on sustainable development within the global climate governance landscape.

At the seminar, Shi Yun and Hu Jiyuan shared perspectives on the relationship between global carbon reduction trends and the tourism and leisure industry, and on pioneering a green transformation of Macao’s tourism and leisure sector. They also held in-depth exchanges with participants on the historical context of global carbon neutrality, the background of China’s “30·60” dual-carbon policy, the impact of global carbon neutrality policies on listed companies, and environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices among Macao’s listed gaming enterprises.

Wang Changbin, Director of the MPU Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies, stated that the seminar fostered exchange between academia and industry, providing valuable insights for the green transformation of Macao’s tourism and leisure industry, jointly burnishing Macao’s “golden name card” as an international metropolis, enhancing international competitiveness, and contributing to the nation’s goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.

The MPU Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies actively promotes exchange and cooperation with the industry, comprehensively cultivating versatile, interdisciplinary talent. Going forward, the Centre will continue to carry out research related to the Sustainable Development Goals and work with the industry to jointly advance Macao’s tourism and leisure sector toward a low-carbon, sustainable development path.
