MFTEDA Delegation Attends 2025 Capital Qiaozhi Development Conference
To further unite the hearts and wisdom of overseas Chinese, promote international talent exchange, and advance the building of the capital's international science and technology innovation centre, the “2025 Capital Qiaozhi Development Conference”, jointly hosted by the Beijing Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, the Beijing Overseas Friendship Association, and the Administrative Committee of the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, was held from 3 to 5 November in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area. More than 450 overseas Chinese figures, innovators and entrepreneurs, experts and scholars, and representatives of financial and investment institutions from 43 countries and regions gathered to discuss cooperation opportunities and chart a blueprint for development.
Led by its President, Dr. Yang Cheng, the Macao Financial Technology and Education Development Association (MFTEDA) organised a delegation that included Secretary-General Dr. Han Jingyi and Standing Director Dr. Pan Hongjie to attend the event, jointly exploring topics such as Beijing–Macao exchange and the overseas expansion of outstanding enterprises through Macao.
Under the theme “Overseas Chinese Pooling Wisdom, Wisdom Enlightening the Future”, the conference focused on technology, industry, talent, innovation, and cooperation, fully demonstrating the unique role of overseas Chinese communities in boosting scientific and technological innovation, promoting international exchange, and empowering industrial development.
As part of the conference's series of activities, “Youth Warming China · Beijing Youth Night Talks”, Dr. Yang Cheng was the first guest to be interviewed in the “Overseas Chinese Youth Podcast Live Room”.
Sharing his views with overseas Chinese leaders at the event, he noted that Macao, as a bridge connecting the Chinese mainland and Portuguese-speaking countries, holds an irreplaceable strategic position in the integration of overseas Chinese resources and international cooperation. In recent years, the Macao SAR Government has continuously optimised the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, providing overseas Chinese talent with full-chain support from project incubation to market integration through a coordinated “technology + finance + trade” model.
Dr. Yang Cheng also pointed out that in areas such as the internationalisation of traditional Chinese medicine, modern finance, and the digital economy, Macao has developed distinctive industrial advantages and can offer global overseas Chinese businesspeople a two-way gateway into the Chinese mainland market and Portuguese-speaking countries. Going forward, MFTEDA will also step up its investment in this area, building a sound platform for enterprises to establish themselves smoothly in Macao.
Secretary-General Han Jingyi attended the Belt and Road special session supporting enterprises going global and the technology-culture integration project roadshow, and held cordial exchanges with Cui Zhaohua, Executive President of the China-Kyrgyzstan Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Association.
Secretary-General Han Jingyi stated that Macao enjoys unique advantages in cross-border economic cooperation and Belt and Road exchanges. MFTEDA not only has a professional team of experts in finance, technology, and education, but has also established extensive cooperative relationships with numerous domestic and international institutions. In areas such as cross-border investment, trade negotiations, and project matching, it can help mainland enterprises better “go global”.
In addition, in technology-culture integration projects, MFTEDA will fully leverage its resource advantages to help such projects take root and flourish in Macao and the mainland.
Standing Director Pan Hongjie was invited to visit the Xiaomi EV factory in Beijing, experiencing first-hand the dynamism of Beijing's smart manufacturing sector. He remarked that the automated guided vehicles, real-time AI system control, and digital twin technology applications vividly demonstrated the formidable strength of “Intelligent Manufacturing in Beijing”.
He subsequently held in-depth discussions with overseas Chinese experts, scholars, and industry leaders — including Zhao Qin, Director of the Overseas Liaison Department of the Beijing Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese; Xiao Zhiguo, Chief Scientist of Huaxia Chip Intelligent Photonics Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd.; and Wu Chuan, Specially Appointed Professor in the Department of International Relations at Nihon University — on topics such as intelligent applications and innovation in scientific research achievements.
Dr. Pan Hongjie said that through the visits and themed sharing sessions, he gained an in-depth understanding of the world's most advanced scientific research achievements and innovative processes, with breakthroughs in digitalisation and intelligent technologies being particularly remarkable. These insights also offer fresh ideas for Macao to connect with high-quality international resources and advance the development of the digital economy and smart city building.
Featuring high-level guests, broad coverage, and a strong international character, the event fully leveraged the advantages of overseas Chinese communities in connecting China and the world and integrating industry and academia. It built a platform for exchange between high-level overseas Chinese talent from around the globe and the capital's industrial innovation and development, promoting the integration of overseas Chinese innovation forces into the coordinated development of the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region.
